Cervical silicone pessary for prevention of preterm birth
The Dr. Arabin perforated cerclage pessary is a medical device made of high-quality silicone. It can be stored at temperatures between 0 and 50 °C, protected from UV radiation and without contact with reactive media, gas, ozone or mineral oil.
Since the introduction of the device, the material and consistency of the product have been improved. Objective compression values have been adapted according to the clinical indication, particularly for model 3.
The cerclage pessary may remain in the vagina for more than 30 days (medical device Class IIb). It is made of flexible and comfortable silicone. Like all silicone pessaries, it is elastic, foldable and can be inserted without side effects such as pain.
The cervical pessary is designed to support the lower uterine segment and the shape of the cervix. The risk of preterm birth is currently identified using transvaginal ultrasound.
The cerclage pessary is indicated for patients with early or late cervical changes such as cervical shortening and/or funneling of the internal os. It is also indicated in patients at increased risk based on medical history (previous preterm birth, cervical surgery such as cone biopsy) or in cases of multiple pregnancy.
Treatment may be initiated from the 12th week of gestation. The pessary is not intended to close the cervix, but to rotate it towards the sacrum, thereby significantly changing the uterocervical angle. In some patients, funneling and cervical length may improve after placement.
An increase in vaginal discharge is a common side effect. The perforations of the pessary allow better drainage. This discharge should not be confused with infection and is not routinely treated with antibiotics.
The pessary is inserted in the lithotomy position. It is essential that the curvature and smaller diameter are oriented upwards, with the larger diameter supported by the pelvic floor. The cervix should be positioned within the upper circumference.
After initial insertion, a follow-up examination within one week is recommended to verify the position of the device. Ideally, the patient should be monitored by the same healthcare provider throughout the treatment.
The product is intended for single use only and must not be used by other patients.
The Dr. Arabin perforated cerclage pessary is available in the following sizes:
